The ALISE School Library Media Special Interest Group brings school library professionals together at the annual conference and at other conferences such as the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) to discuss and share information about current research and practices important to school librarianship.
ALISE provides a venue for Special Interest Groups to participate at the annual conference through paper presentations, panels, and other programs related to the theme of the conference. The School Library Media SIG participation in these includes the following:
School Library SIG Activities:
One of the main responsibilities of the School Library SIG was to alternatively administer the ALISE/LMC Paper Award with the Youth Services SIG. This award is sponsored by the Library Media Connection, which provides funding for the best research paper in a competitive double blind review process. Committee members serving on the review committee are appointed by the leadership of each SIG and alternate between the School Library Media SIG and the Youth Services SIG.
The name School Library Media SIG was unofficially shortened to School Library SIG in 2013 to reflect changing times.
